My Story
I have always been a huge foodie and remember being so surprised to learn not everyone simply enjoyed food. The concept of dieting felt unintuitive to me, even as a teenager. I found it difficult to comprehend why my classmates would skip lunch or why my relatives would drink a shake instead of having a delicious and filling meal. My interest in nutrition sparked further in high school after getting curious about food label ingredients and how nutrition impacted health. I knew I wanted a career focused on helping individuals with nutrition but I didn't even know dietitians existed until I went to college. I ended up transferring to the University of Minnesota to pursue a degree in dietetics where I found my desire to work in the eating disorder world. Since becoming a dietitian I have continuing to work and learn from a non-diet and weight inclusive approach. I hope to guide clients to a place where eating can once again be simple and enjoyable.
A great piece of advice I have received from another dietitian is "No one food is less healthy than an unhealthy relationship with food."
